And we only commit when the work matters.At Blackout Editions, authors retain full ownership of their work. We publish through KDP for now—for the ease, accessibility, and straightforward royalty payouts. Our model is simple: an 85/15 revenue split. You keep 85%. Our 15% covers our role in preparing the book for launch, guiding strategy, and helping it reach the right readers.If you need help with editing, design, or finishing touches, we can offer suggestions—or connect you with people we trust. The decisions—and the ownership—are always yours.As part of the launch, we ask authors to contribute to a focused marketing plan—just enough to help the book gain early traction, without inflating costs or cutting corners. We may also ask you to take part in promotion, especially if anonymity isn’t a factor. Momentum builds best when the writer’s voice carries, too.We’re not here to make a killing. We’re here to build a collective—a curated group of writers who challenge the norm and put something real into the world.That’s why we’re selective.
